 Basic Skills Workshops - Course Descriptions

AZBC06 Orientation to the Workplace (8 Hours) The scope of this class is to provide the student with an insight to business operations. Many businesses or organization do business different ways and have different expectations and images. This class will explore workplace guidelines, protocols and organizational philosophies. Topics include; Employee Responsibilities, First Impressions, Attitudes, Telephone Skills, Stress Management, Handling Conflicts and Obstacles to Productivity.

AZBC07 Technical Math - 16 Hours This course is an intermediate level course. The course will review basic mathematical principles to include; the number line, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The course will continue with lectures, discussions and exercises with; equations and formulas, interpreting and organizing charts and graphs, units of measure, decimals and fractions and fundamentals of statistics.
AZBC08 Perceptions and Attitudes - 8 Hours This workshop will explore the perceptions of customers when making an initial call to a business and the vision created as a result of that brief encounter. The course will stress how each employee is partially responsible for the success of the business and the role that each individual plays is as important as any other member of the staff.

AZBC09 Basic Math - 16 Hours Transition from arithmetic to algebra. Includes basic mathematical operations, work with fractions, decimals, signed numbers, percents, and ratio applications. Also includes order of operations, solving linear equations and inequalities in one variable. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to;
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide real numbers.
  • Solve simple word problems involving fractions, decimals, area and perimeters.

AZBC10 Basic Telephone Skills - 8 Hours The focus of this class is to provide the students with the skills necessary to engage and handle incoming calls. The initial telephone call is the most important customer service tool in our inventory. Topics include: telephone basics, initial greeting, listening to the message, call handling, customer service principles, message taking and problem solving techniques.
AZBC11 Active Listening - 8 Hours The scope of this course is to provide the students the skills needed to participate in a conversation and become an active participant in the communication process. Topics include; Active Listening Fundamentals, Communications Styles, Commandments of Communicating, Communication Barriers and Assessment Tools.

AZBC12 Communication Fundamentals - 8 Hours In today's environment, a business's success is dependent upon a customer's first impression. The first impression is a critical component in gaining new business and retaining a customer's loyalty.

This workshop will explore the perceptions of customers and the vision created as a result of that brief encounter. The course will stress how each employee is partially responsible for the success of the organization and the role that each individual plays is as important as any other member of the staff. Business communications are the most important factor in maintaining a customer base, as well as, recruiting new customers. Business is based on commitments and fulfilling commitments, maintaining the same energy level from beginning to end.

AZBC13 Keyboarding Skills - 8 Hours The objective of this class is to familiarize the student with the standard functions of the keyboard, input information into the computer, become familiar with the keypads home keys, increase the student’s typing/inputting with exercise drills and common editing functions within the Window’s environment. Typing tutors will be used to analyze speed and accuracy using the keyboard.

This class concentrates on the keyboard’s functions; basic HOME keys, the purpose of the additional keys located on a standard 12 Function keyboard, the function keys, shortcut keys and the functions of the numeric keypad.

AZBC14 Goal Setting - 8 Hours This workshop will concentrate on providing the students with a focused approach to take ownership of their lives and career. The students will generate goals to facilitate the development of their careers. Additionally, the students will assess their personal and technical strengths and weaknesses, develop a career plan, identify education and training requirements to assist them in fulfilling their aspirations and construct contingency plans to adapt to changes.
AZBC15 Customer Service Principles - 8 Hours In today's environment, a business's success is dependent upon a customer's first impression. AZLS27 Counseling Guidelines - 16 Hours This course will provide the students with the skills required to conduct an effective counseling session. The Counselor requires a wide variety of skills to orchestrate a counseling session. Topics include; concepts of counseling, approaches, guidelines, basic communications skills, job performance issues, positive and negative reactions, internal and external resources and motivation techniques.

The scope of this workshop is to provide the student with a process-oriented approach to conduct a counseling session. This course provides the student with a road map of activities and guidelines to facilitate a productive counseling session. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to ;

  • Personal relationship. Establish a relationship of trust, care and concern with the client.
  • Current behavior. Focus on specific actions rather than feelings. It is easier to change what persons do rather than how they feel.
  • Present time. Focus on the here and now. The past cannot be changed; the future can be influenced.
  • Judgment. Cause each individual to judge his own behavior and determine what he is doing to contribute to a problem or to prevent success.
  • Planning. Ensure plans are made to cause improvement and not just change. There must be a goal of success.
  • Commitment. Ensure the plan is carried out. Only then is it meaningful. The plan must have an outcome to which the individual feels committed.
  • No Excuses. Do not be concerned with justifying the reasons if part of the plan is undesirable or if the plan fails to work. Make a new plan or modify the old one and continue.
  • Reward. Encourage clients to work for reward, satisfaction, and accomplishment rather than to avoid punishment or unpleasant consequences. Avoiding punishment seldom works when the source of authority is not present.

AZLS29 Guiding and Developing Others - 16 Hours A course deigned for managers and supervisors who are responsible for orchestrating the career development process. Many companies support an internal development program for their employees, this course provides the manager with the tools and resources required to implement the program on an individual basis. Topics include: performance planning, identifying potential, training and educational resources, developing individuals to meet the company’s long-term strategies and coordinating special assignments.
AZLS32 Management Presentations - 8 Hours This course will explore the differences between classroom instruction and conducting a management presentation. A blend between Presentation Skills and Completed Staff Work.
AZLS34 Project Management - 16 Hours The purpose of this course is to provide the students with the skills required to accept an assignment then orchestrate the completion of the Project.

Projects are normally defined by the results expected. This class will concentrate on the individual phases associated with the management of a project regardless of size.

Project Management can be broke down into 5 individual stages - Assessment, Analysis, Planning, Implementation and Follow-up. The size or complexity of the project will dictate the resources required, either physical resources or human resources. In addition to the physical components of Project Management, this course will also cover the intricacies of communications and working within a team environment to achieve maximum results.

AZLS35 Bench Marking the Business - 16 Hours This workshop will concentrate on providing the students with a focused approach to improving organizational performance. In order to verify the success of; a new approach, an improved process or individual performance, we need to evaluate against a standard.

This course will assist the students in benchmarking the current status and developing plans to improve the business. Topics include; organizational goals, department responsibilities, goal setting, snapshot of the business, assessing strengths and weaknesses, problem solving techniques, project planning, creating measurement criteria, team building fundamentals and assessment tools.

AZLS36 Performance Planning - 16 Hours This course will assist the student in setting expectations for their employees. Topics include: organizational and department goals, identifying job content, writing job descriptions, communicating expectations and performance standards.
AZLS37 Performance Management - 16 Hours This course will assist the students with managing the performance of their employees. This includes managing poor performers and the ideal employee. Topics include: assessing contributions, providing feedback, documenting performance issues and coaching and counseling.

AZLS43 Managing Diversity - 8 Hours The workplace has been changing over the course of the last few years. The composition is drastically different than a few years ago. It is up to use as leaders within an organization to set the example, we must conduct business as efficiently and effective as possible. As manager, we must orchestrate the process. Within the organization there is no room for stereo-typing or discrimination. This course will explore managing a diverse workforce and examine their priorities and constraints, their motivators and demoralizers.

AZTD11 Developing Course Material - 16 Hours Learn how to develop effective course material and support your own training requirements. Topics include; Performance-Based Training, developing objectives, creating activities and exercises, measurement tools, evaluate modes and methods of instruction, create instructor guides and student handouts.
AZTD12 Instructor Development - 24 Hours This workshop is designed for individuals responsible for conducting training events. Topics include instructor responsibilities, classroom management, Objective-Based Instruction, training techniques, presentation skills, instructional styles and Adult Learning Principles.
AZTD13 Training By Design - 24 Hours This workshop is designed for individuals responsible for conducting training events. It has been generally accepted that our functions do contribute to the overall performance of our Organizations.
